Second Sunday of Easter
26 April 2003
During the restoration of the church, a new seal was crafted for the center of the reredos by Mary May and Charles Ramberg (the team who also produced the ambo). At the center of the seal is a bas relief carving of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child enthroned in glory, and around the edge of the image is our full title in Latin and the foundation year of the parish: Ecclesia Dominae Nortrae A Sacro Corde Iesu 1852.This rendering is meant to show the tender love and intimate union between Our Lord and His Virgin Mother, the patroness of our parish.
Christopher Pelicano, a member of St. Mary’s and the artist who painted our three sanctuary statues, has produced a drawing based on the carved seal, and this image will now become the logo of the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the coming weeks you will see this logo appear on most documents and publications of the parish. May the beauty of this image draw all who see it into the beauty of holiness and the mystery of God’s love revealed in the Lord Jesus Christ.
