3rd Sunday of the Year
25 January 2004
Praised be Jesus Christ! Now and forever!
Dear Friends in Christ,
Some random matters for your information:
- All altar servers, both old and new, should attend a training session in the church at 7:00 pm on Wednesday 4 February. This is an important meeting and everyone should make an effort to be present. The meeting will last one hour.
- We had hoped to have a visiting preacher for a Lenten Mission this year, but the priest who had agreed to come has been assigned to new duties by his religious superior. Accordingly, there will not be a Mission this year.
- The next Pastoral Council meeting is Tuesday 3 February. You are welcome to be in touch with me or Rita O’Rourke, the Council Coordinator, if you have any items for discussion. Rita’s contact information is found on page two of this bulletin.
- After all Masses next weekend, we will take a "Souper Bowl" collection at the doors of the church. All proceeds from this collection will go to purchase food and supplies for our Saturday Bag Lunch program which feeds many hungry persons each week. All donations each week to the "Poor Box" at the doors of the church go to this same charity.
- January 26-30 is Catholic Schools Week, a time when we acknowledge the sacrifices of those who make possible Catholic schools throughout the nation. We are blessed to have a parochial school of extraordinary excellence, and every family in the parish is encouraged to educate their children at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Please see inside this bulletin for information about applications for next year.
- All priests of our diocese will be meeting with Bishop Baker in Columbia on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. For this reason, there will be no parochial Mass at noon on those three days. Please pray for our priests gathered in Convocation, that we may become more faithful heralds of the Gospel and stewards of the Sacred Mysteries.
Father Newman
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for us.
