Solemnity of the Ascension

28 May 2006

Praised be Jesus Christ! Now and forever!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Have you been born again?

Yes, in my baptism I was born again by water and the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-21).

Do you know the Plan of Salvation?

Yes, the Passover or Paschal Mystery of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ reveals to us God’s eternal plan to save all mankind by uniting all people to the Most Holy Trinity through our union with Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus is the forgiveness of our sins, and by faith in Him, by keeping His commandments, and by living through His grace in faith, hope, and love, we come to know the fullness of saving truth (Ephesians 1:3-14, Titus 3:4-8).

Is there any way to salvation apart from Jesus Christ?

No, there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only Way, Truth, and Life for all mankind (John 14:6).

What is the Gospel?

The Gospel is God’s saving Word of truth, the Good News of salvation; the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe (Ephesians 1:13, and Romans 1:1-17).

Where is the Gospel found?

The Gospel is found in the one, single sacred deposit of faith of all that God has revealed to mankind for our salvation, and that single deposit of faith is found in the Sacred Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and in the Sacred Tradition of apostolic teaching which was not confided to the books of the Bible but is nonetheless contained in God’s revealed and saving Word. It is by the infallible authority of Sacred Tradition that we know which books are contained in the Holy Bible, and it is by the infallible authority of Sacred Scripture that we know God’s eternal Plan of Salvation (1 Timothy 3:14-16, 6:20, 2 Timothy 1:8-14, 3:14-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15).
