Sixth Sunday of the Year

13 February 2011

Dear Friends in Christ,

1. The principal apostolate of this parish is our parochial school, now in its 110th year. One of the ways we keep our tuition below the actual cost per pupil of running the school is the annual Golf Classic, now in its 23rd year. But in addition to the golf tournament, we also host a dinner and silent auction on the day of play, and this splendid event is not just for golfers; it’s for everyone. This year the dinner and auction will be on Friday 3 June 2011 at the Embassy Suites hotel on Verdae Boulevard, and tickets cost $40 each. If you have an item or a service that you would like to donate to the silent auction, please be in touch with our auction chair, Reyna Thompson at reynat@synnex.com. Plan now on joining us for a wonderful evening of fun and fellowship that also provides an invaluable service to St. Mary’s Catholic School.

2. Please remember that Confessions are heard each Wednesday afternoon from 5 to 6 pm by two confessors and each Saturday afternoon from 3.30 to 4.30 pm by one confessors. Because two priests are available on Wednesday, it is usually possible to make your Confession then with the least wait.

3. Please also remember that we once again have a noon Mass regularly scheduled each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is in addition to our 7 am Mass celebrated each day from Monday through Friday. If you would like an intention offered at one of these Masses, please contact Mary Williams in the church office.

4. Lent begins in one month on Ash Wednesday, 9 March 2011. Please plan now on joining us for Vespers each Sunday of Lent at 5 pm and for the Way of the Cross each Friday of Lent at 6 pm. Now is also a good time to make remote preparation for Lent by considering what discipline to undertake, and an excellent choice is to attend weekday Mass throughout Lent. Another very good choice is learning to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, of which Sunday Vespers is only a small part.

5. Each registered household in the parish will shortly receive from me a letter explaining the goals of our 2011 capital campaign, “Preparing the Way.” By the end of 2011 we can be finished with every project in our 15 Year Master Plan except for the construction of the new church, but we need the help of every household in the parish to accomplish this task. If you think of St. Mary’s as your spiritual home but have not yet registered in the parish, please do so now by completing one of the forms available in the church vestibules. If each household gives according to its means as an essential part of Christian discipleship, then we will easily meet and surpass our goal. Thank you for your generous commitment to St. Mary’s.
