Saint Mary’s Men’s Schola
St. Mary's Men's Schola
The St. Mary’s Men’s Schola sings on a rotating schedule with the other St. Mary’s choral ensembles at the 5:00 P.M. Saturday mass. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 8:30 P.M. on weeks immediately prior to Saturday mass, and at 4:00 P.M. on the day of mass.
The Men’s Schola sings the anthems, the psalm and Gospel verses as well as the Introit, Offertory and Communion antiphons. This fine ensemble sings in other languages and in Latin in particular. The type of music that the Men’s Schola sings ranges from ancient chant through the high Renaissance, and extends into selected appropriate music of the modern age.
Membership in this fine ensemble is open to all men beginning at age 16. A friendly audition by the choirmaster will ask prospective singers to demonstrate a pleasant singing voice and basic requirements of aural/tonal memory, pitch-matching. Singers do not have to be members of St. Mary’s Church to participate, nor do they have to be a member of the adult choir.
This is an excellent opportunity for men who love singing to add their talent in worship without having to commit to a weekly regimen of rehearsals.
Contact the Choirmaster, Arlen Clarke for further details.
