"I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion… The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord. With the friendly and expert help and advice of other people, and as a result of your own painful experience, you can be among the most eloquent defenders of everyone's right to life" (Pope John Paul II, The Gospel of Life, 99).
It's normal to grieve a pregnancy loss, including the loss of a child by abortion. It can form a hole in one's heart, a hole so deep that sometimes it seems nothing can fill the emptiness.
Some women, on their own or with professional help, are able to get beyond their grief, and find a measure of peace after abortion. But other women continue to feel isolated and alone in their sadness, regret, anger and self-recrimination.
Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place to renew, rebuild and redeem hearts broken by abortion. Weekend retreats offer you a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment where women and men can express, release and reconcile painful post-abortive emotions to begin the process of restoration, renewal and healing.
Rachel’s Vineyard has trained priests and professional counselors who can help you to heal spiritually and emotionally, no matter what faith tradition is yours. Rachel’s Vineyard is therapy for the soul. Participants, who have been trapped in anger toward themselves or others, experience forgiveness. Peace is found. Lives are restored. A sense of hope and meaning for the future is finally re-discovered.
If you are hurting because of abortion, we invite you to begin this journey. Rachel’s Vineyard helps women heal from abortion through a process that incorporates Scripture and personal reflection during the weekend.
