Knights of Columbus Council 13112 Youth Activities

The Knights of Columbus Monsignor Charles J. Baum Council 13112 at St. Mary’s parish will be conducting the following competitions as part of our Youth Program with St. Mary’s School.

Knights of Columbus Essay Contest
The contest is open to 8th graders graduating from St. Mary’s. The topic is “The Responsibility of the Catholic Citizen in a Free Society.” The essays should be 500-750 words based on a theme taken from Church writings. The requested essays must be complete in October.

Annual Free Throw Championship
This event will be held in the St. Mary’s Gym in January 2011. It is open to boys and girls 10-14 years.

Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest
The contest is open to boys and girls 8-11 and 12-14. The youth select to make a poster for either Alcohol Awareness and Abuse or Drug Awareness and Abuse. Each 11” x 17” poster must include a slogan, visual image and completed entry form. The deadline will be in early January 2011.

Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge
The Soccer Challenger involves youth ages 10-14 making a 12 yard penalty kicks into a 8 ft. x 24 ft. soccer goal that is roped off into point zones. This event is scheduled for either late September or early October.
