Blue Ribbon School 2009
The U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced St. Mary’s Catholic School as a 2009 Blue Ribbon School. Saint Mary’s is one of two private schools from the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina receiving the award this year and one of seven schools receiving the award from the state of South Carolina.
The Blue Ribbon Award for Saint Mary’s Catholic School is a testimony to the dedication of the administration, faculty, staff, students and parents to the motto of the school: “Tradition, Virtue and Excellence”. Special recognition is given to Sister Anna Grace Neenan, principal from 2006-2009 and Sister Veronica Janas, principal from 1988-2006, for their educational leadership in bringing Saint Mary’s Catholic School to this high point in her 109 year old history.
As part of the Saint Mary Catholic Church, Saint Mary’s School provides an outstanding K4 through 8th grade education program to 272 students who travel from within the city and the surrounding towns. Saint Mary’s school is staffed by Dominican Sisters and dedicated teachers who prepare students to successfully meet and exceed the academic standards of high school curriculums.
It’s an honor to a part of this important historical event …...
