
Middle School Basketball Success
St. Mary’s Middle School Girls Basketball Team won the Senior Girls Division Championship at the Diocese of Charleston Youth Basketball Tournament (DOCYBT) held in Aiken, S.C. Feb. 29-Mar.2. The Lady Ducks defeated Blessed Sacrament of Charleston in a closely contested game 42-40. The girls team has been undefeated for the past two years with a 48-0 record and has won the DOCYBT tournament two years in a row. Eighth grader Katie Anderson was named Most Valuable Player. The St. Mary’s Boys Middle School Basketball team finished 2-1 in the Diocesan tournament. During the past three years the boys and girls teams have a record of 121-13 or a 91 percent winning record.
St. Mary’s School girls basketball team defeated St. Joseph’s School 37-17 to win the Carolina Middle School Conference (CMSC) Tournament held Feb. 14-15. The girls team placed first in CMSC season play, remaining undefeated for the year. Katie Anderson, Amelia Feisal, and Emily Spitzmiller were named All Conference players. The St. Mary’s boys team was the consolation winner in the CMSC Tournament and had a 16-5 record overall in the season. Beck Dugas and Ryan Bondura were named All Conference players.
Both St. Mary’s Basketball teams are coached by Willis Holliday.
